Claire’s seeks creditor protection in U.S., Canada

Officials with Claire’s Holdings LLC have announced that the company has filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. and Canada as the accessories and cosmetics retailer explores a path forward in the wake of increased competition and changing consumer trends.

Since 1974, more than 2,750 stores have been established in 17 countries in North America and Europe. Stores in North America will remain open throughout the proceedings as the company seeks to monetize its assets, which will allow it to move through the difficult creditor protection process.
