Serving Clients Worldwide

Total Safety

On job sites, safety is a top priority, and few companies realize this more than Total Safety. Created 25 years ago to serve the industrial safety needs of clients in the oil and gas sector, the Houston-headquartered company keeps growing and is today one of the world’s most respected providers of integrated safety services, equipment and solutions.

With energy customers in sectors including upstream, midstream, petrochemical, refinery, mining, chemical, utility, and industrial manufacturing, Total Safety refuses to compromise on its Mission: W3… to ensure the Safe Wellbeing of Workers Worldwide, and on providing clients with necessary, cost-effective safety solutions. Total Safety has the skilled staff, decades of experience, and robust processes, and technologies to deliver custom-tailored services and solutions, meeting all client safety compliance requirements and expectations.

“We are the leading global provider of integrated safety services and solutions for hazardous environments,” says Paul Tyree, Chief Commercial Officer. “Total Safety is one of the world’s largest safety sales, rental, and service providers for communications, emergency response, fall protection, fire protection, flare services, gas detection, in-plant service centers, medical management, professional and technical personnel, respiratory protection, training, turnaround and shutdown technologies, PPE/MRO supply chain management, distribution, and specialized safety equipment.”

Delivering key services
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer and Board member George Ristevski, the company’s wide-ranging suite includes integrated safety and compliance services and related support products that reduce risk “in order to keep our clients, employees and assets safe and in compliance in any hazardous industrial environment.”

Over the decades, Total Safety has ensured its role as a market leader, inventing, developing and deploying innovative technical safety systems that provide clients with solutions to improve safety, enhance productivity, and deliver data. A leader in innovation and technology, Total Safety also sets itself apart from other companies in its space through its experienced, dedicated and committed staff. Growing to 200 locations – including 135 In-Plant Service Centers embedded in refineries, petrochemical facilities, utility plants, automotive manufacturing, mining, and E&P operations across the globe – Total Safety has over 4,000 employees dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of its many clients.

With a range of safety solutions encompassing emergency response, fire protection, gas detection, medical management and more, Total Safety remains focused on protecting clients in many sectors. “All our safety solution offerings are continuing to grow, which is driven by our clients’ desire to protect their team members who show up to work every day,” says Tyree. “New technologies that provide improved safety and productivity in the workplace are introduced to the market at such a rapid pace. With our global footprint and team of experts, we can integrate and assimilate new products quickly for our clients. We want to have what our clients need to protect their workers even before they know they need it.”

Taking on his current role in early 2019, during Tyree’s 23 years with Total Safety he has held key roles including: Vice President – Sales, Vice President and General Manager U.S. Operations, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and President – Global Business Units. “It’s been a great ride,” he says. “I love the company, our employees, our clients, and the end markets we serve. It’s a fun, rewarding, and truly noble endeavor.”

Leading the development and strategic execution of key processes and functions related to mergers and acquisitions, sales, marketing, strategic planning, organizational alignment, business development, innovation, and technology, Tyree is backed by a great team comprising cross-functional departments and subject matter experts. “To live our Mission every day means we keep people safe while providing systems, specialized safety personnel, and life safety services to protect people working in hazardous environments,” he says.

Committed to growth
To ensure its position as a leading global safety provider and innovator, Total Safety continues to grow internally and through successful strategic acquisitions. Just this year alone, Today Safety made six acquisitions to increase its presence in the power utility, safety product supply distribution, and safety equipment rental markets. In early November, Total Safety announced the successful acquisition of Southern California-based Pacific Coast Tool (Pac Tool), expanding its distribution offerings to power utility clients. According to Ristevski in a company media release, “Pac Coast immediately expands our presence in the power utility segment, particularly in Southern California. It continues our strategy of diversifying into attractive end markets where our expertise in hazardous environments is highly valued. The move will see Pac Coast fit within Total Safety’s S&S Supplies and Solutions brand, which the company acquired in mid-September.”

“We listen to our clients and we know the marketplace,” states Tyree. “Our clients are focused on operational excellence in every aspect of their business: safety, productivity, and efficiency. Adding the impressive teams – as well as the capabilities – of the recent acquisitions to the Total Safety portfolio, will ensure we can deliver the value our clients want and deserve.”

Through the acquisition of S&S Supplies and Solutions – a leading provider of safety products, industrial supplies, and compliance services to the airline, automotive, power utility, and energy end markets – Total Safety expanded the business, and is organizing around two separate business units (Industrial Safety Services and Specialty Distribution), which will operate S&S independently, according to the company. “S&S provides us with an immediate capability of delivering safety products, industrial supplies, and solutions to our customers across the U.S. and soon throughout the world,” stated Ristevski in a release, adding that the move gives Total Safety access to distribution capabilities into a broader group of customers, especially the power utility end market.

This year also saw Total Safety announce the acquisition of Sprint Safety in August. With five locations and about 200 staff, Sprint has grown to become a premier national safety service company and a leading provider of communications systems and turnkey two-way radio rentals. “The combination of our two companies will solidify Total Safety as the leading technology provider to our customers,” said Ristevski. “We are excited to have Sprint Safety’s top-notch employees, their strong presence in turnaround safety services and their premier radio communications capabilities join Total Safety to continue to deliver exceptional service and leading-edge technologies to our customers.”

Serving companies in upstream, midstream and downstream sectors, Total Safety has the staff and expertise necessary to handle all projects, providing solutions such as gas detection, turnaround and shutdown, confined space safety, fire protection, training compliance and certification, emergency response, medical management, and many others. “We will continue to move into new markets and look at strategic acquisitions that fit our long-term plans,” says Tyree.

Safety Moments app
Keeping up with technology, the company created the Total Safety Industrial Safety Moments App, available at the iTunes Store and Google Play.

Based on over two decades of firsthand experience, the Industrial Safety Moments App was designed with workers in mind. Offering a training-oriented approach “to shared safety moments,” the handy app is easy to understand and a convenient, innovative method to learn more about safety. All users have to do is follow three simple steps: pick an industry, choose a subject, and then choose a safety moment. All safety moments are based on Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) requirements. For anyone seeking more information, the app provides valuable links to other safety associations, such as the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers (CSSE), the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and others.

Information can easily be shared with co-workers and others through the ‘Share the App’ including PDFs and even PowerPoint slides of safety moments through the handy ‘Get the Slide’ button. Easy, accurate and efficient, the Total Safety Industrial Safety Moment app makes sharing information on safety subjects such as fire prevention, gas detection, emergency rescue, industrial hygiene, and fire prevention a breeze.

Certainly, the app is a convenient, modern way to get the company’s message across. And, as Tyree says, “Our message never shifts. Total Safety remains focused on our Mission: ‘W3… to ensure the safe Wellbeing of Workers Worldwide.’ The solutions we provide will improve the overall safety of the workplace.”
