The company’s services are provided for customers from start to finish. Engineers thoroughly review customer applications during the design phase of each project to determine optimum solutions and Bluffton keeps the doors of communication open throughout the process to ensure a successful project. Company reps spend time at customers’ facilities to ensure that Bluffton Motor Works products and customer products are optimally performing.

All of the company’s products are available in custom designs or special tolerances with additional features, such as electronic switching and controls, to fit the best application for its customers, as the company’s website explains. Bluffton Motor Works also manufactures a line of washdown duty motors, including its patented HydroDuty line of stainless steel motors with encapsulated windings, and HydroWash white epoxy washdown motors.

With a range of electric motors spanning from 1/20 to 5 horsepower designed with specific RPMs based on customer specifications, Bluffton Motor Works is known for manufacturing motors in 56, 48 or 36 frame ratings with open, enclosed or explosion proof enclosures and right angle and parallel shaft gearmotors.

Formerly a part of the Engineered Motor Products Division of Franklin Electric, Bluffton Motor Works boasts a prominent history of manufacturing high-quality fractional motors since 1952. The company has evolved over the years to embrace new technology and services, but its mission remains the same – to provide value to its customers through a relentless pursuit of perfection.

Bluffton Motor Works has vertically integrated, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, combined with an experienced and knowledgeable workforce that allows the company to produce high quality, reliable motors for all its customers.

Recent developments of Bluffton Motor Works include expanding its product line in 2012 by introducing right angle and inline parallel shaft gear reducers through the acquisition of Toledo Gearmotor. The company has also begun integrating Lean Manufacturing practices with Six Sigma tools throughout its operations, allowing the business to make great strides in eliminating waste and dramatically improving its manufacturing workflow, resulting in 99.8 percent on-time delivery.

At Bluffton, the team’s commitment to perfection means continually setting goals and evaluating the results to ensure the company produces the highest quality products available. By remaining committed to this iterative model, Bluffton strives to exceed customer expectations, improve product quality, advance the speed of delivering its products, and elevate employee satisfaction.

Some of these high quality products include washdown motors designed for harsh, high-moisture environments such as food processing and manufacturing; pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing; auto and vehicle washing equipment; and bottling as well as servicing machines in the beverage and marine industries. The company’s HydroDuty stainless steel, washdown motor is protected inside and out by industry-leading submersible motor technology and is designed for unequaled operation in washdown and other corrosive environments, according to Bluffton’s website. The HydroWash outlasts typical washdown motors due to its patented breather vent, larger bearings and vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) method of encapsulation.

To be sure, Bluffton Motor Works makes the toughest general purpose motors in the industry. The company’s motors offer customers an incredible level of application flexibility without compromising on quality or reliability. The result is a family of general purpose motors being used by a variety of industries in virtually hundreds of applications. 48 and 56-frame motors are available in single or three phase designs with either single-speed or multi-speed capability. These motors can be equipped with automatic, manual, or no thermal protection, depending upon the application, and are available in high starting torque, capacitor start designs, or normal starting torque three phase designs. The motors are built to agency specifications.

To meet customers’ general stock motor needs, Bluffton Motor Works carries a number of diverse products. For commercial and industrial applications, products such as jet pumps, metering pumps, well pumps and high pressure sprayers are available. For air-moving applications, the company produces motors for HVAC, refrigeration, and blower units. For the food dispensing and preparation sector, Bluffton designs and manufactures slicers, mixers, processing equipment and conveying equipment. In the irrigation and agriculture market, products such as center pivot irrigation drives, livestock ventilation fans, and poultry curtains are available for customers. Bluffton also designs vacuum pumps to operate in products such as air compressors, liquid rings, and sewage pumping and aeration applications.

Bluffton also specializes in building dependable explosion-proof motors. Producing hazardous-duty fractional motors since the inception of the company, Bluffton has a long history of constructing quality motors that are reliable in challenging environments. Customized to meet specific customer requirements, Bluffton Motor Works offers explosion-proof motors in single and three phase designs in 36, 48, and 56 frames. Bluffton has HP and RPM ranges to fit most applications and the motors can be customized for specific applications to ensure performance in diverse operating environments.

Recently, in 2014, Bluffton Motor Works released its AmeriBLUE line of pool and spa motors. Specifically designed for pool and spa pump operations, these motors boast features not found in competitors’ designs. AmeriBLUE motors feature what is known as “The Ultimate” Double Seal System to prevent leaking pumps from ruining the motors by allowing this water to drain to the ground instead of the internal parts of the motor. The AmeriBLUE motor rotors are dynamically balanced during production, to offer a quieter and vibration-free operation, and the painted endbells help to prevent the corrosion that can often occur in the environment in which these motors operate. AmeriBLUE motors are available in single- or two-speed operations, have NEMA C-Face or Square Flange motor mountings, and are available as drop-in replacements for popular pumps and motors. Power ratings begin at ½ hp and continue through 3 hp, with models available in both standard and high efficiency designs. Several custom features that make these motors unique have been incorporated into the product design, ensuring durability and increased longevity in the swimming pool environment.

For more than 60 years, Bluffton Motor Works has designed high quality, durable motors for a diverse array of industries and markets. From its initial beginnings to its recent efforts designing and building motors for pools and spas as well as modernizing its lean manufacturing operations, Bluffton Motor Works is destined for a long, storied history as an industry leader in manufacturing motors.
